A month ago while on my maternity leave, I saw a YouTube video on impacts on Cellphone Radiation effects on Pregnancy and Childhood. I started digging in for proven studies on this whenever I found time.
Some quick alarming facts I have come across, briefing them here for you.
- Cellphones emit the exact same radiations (RF) as a microwave, though the power level is different.
- To be mobile convenient, cell phones are equipped with tiny antennas. They send signals to area cell towers to make it possible to send and receive data and emits Energy (aka radiation). Some reports indicate the “safe level” of cell radiation was modeled off a grown 200 lb man. Not, off a child with a developing skull.
- Studies also indicate most cellphone manufacturers RF limits are much above the permissible limit of 1.6 watts per kilograms as per FCC( Federal Communications Council).
- Every study I read, educated me on the harmful impacts on our babies developing brains on various levels like Cancer and Development of Brain Tumors, or Increased ADHD behaviors.
- There was an alarming study of hyperactive behaviors detected in lab-rats experiment after being exposed to RF radiation.
- Read the fine print of a legal column in IPhone settings:
“Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) refers to the rate at which the body absorbs RF energy. The SAR limit is 1.6 watts per kilogram in countries that set the limit averaged over 1 gram of tissue and 2.0 watts per kilogram in countries that set the limit averaged over 10 grams of tissue. During testing, iPhone radios are set to their highest transmission levels and placed in positions that simulate uses against the head, with no separation, and when worn or carried against the torso of the body, with 10mm separation.
To reduce exposure to RF energy, use a hands-free option, such as the built-in speakerphone, the supplied headphones, or other similar accessories. Cases with metal parts may change the RF performance of the device, including its compliance with RF exposure guidelines, in a manner that has not been tested or certified.
Although this device has been tested to determine SAR in each band of operation, not all bands are available in all areas. Bands are dependent on your service provider’s wireless and roaming networks.”

I was left pondering over some thoughts:
Average SAR is the time rate of change of the total energy absorbed by a body, divided by the total mass of the body. SAR limit is set averaged over grams of Human body tissue, however an infant/child’s body tissue is so much smaller compared to adults. Also this study is based on body tissue as a whole, but how about sensitive developing child brain tissue?
It led me to this: “The American Academy of Pediatrics agrees, saying that “when used by children, the average RF energy deposition is two times higher in the brain and 10 times higher in the bone marrow of the skull, compared with mobile phone use by adults”.
Our pediatricians, hospitals and social media influencers are always trying educate us to give the best to our babies, but never once was I told about the harmful impacts of RF or why take the risk.
I agree studies on cell-phone radiation have not been proven to harm human health, but also are unable to completely clear it of any potential risk. Why is there is no funding led research backed by governments?
We live in an IOT world where every device (Routers, Smart watches, Bluetooth, Household appliances) emit RF radiations with different power capacities. I strongly think we should be educated well to handle this in the right manner for our kids development.
